KVM unsupported bus type 'scsi'

Hi guys

I am trying to start this newly created KVM VE, and I get this error

any ideas why it is not working or why iscsi won't work? I thought it was SCSI emulation, as this node host is SATA.

The kvm version on kernel 2.6.18 has no scsi emulation support - please use ide or virtio instead.

Now that really Sucks! Unlike SCSI, IDE only supports 4 devices (I'm not sure about Virtio.) Feels like we are going backwards. I wonder why they went this way...

virtio supports many disks. And if you need scsi, you can use the 2.6.24-kernel.

One of our hosts was upgraded to 2.6.24-8-pve and the client with several scsi disks does not start anymore.

It's a freeNAS client (with NFS) which has most of our ISO images and backups.

I'd like to understand better the reasons for this choice, we prefer to "ide" or "virtio" for instability of SCSI or another?

I'm trying to build a new freeNAS server (freeBSD) with MANY storage devices (more than 4 drives) but apparantly freeBSD does not recognise Virtio drives
IDE just wont cut it. I think I might have to downgrade the Host.

some users reported good results with openfiler (using virtio disks), just search the forum.

but are you sure you want to virtualize storage in such a way?

I do not undestand your problem. Simply use kernel 2.6.24 or 2.6.32

what is your problem exactly? SCSI work with V1.5 and kernel 2.6.24

Any error message in the logs? What if you try to start manually?

I am running V1.5 and kernel 2.6.32. I get the following when trying to start a VM with bus type 'scsi':

'unsupported bus type 'scsi'

Should it work with kernel 2.6.32?

This is the wrong version for kernel 2.6.32. Please follow the instruction at

when you change the kernel.
