Java Requirements

Any chance on moving to HTML 5 to not require Java anymore? http://kanaka.github.com/noVNC/ VNC client using HTML5 (WebSockets, Canvas) with encryption (wss://) support.

We already tested that, but it is simply too slow and it triggers browser crashes. We already tried to debug that with the maintainer, but had no success so far.

no, the download does not even include a license file, and their commercial web page does not look like they try to push the gpl version so I do no think that this is a good tool for Proxmox VE. our java based vnc console is working good and fast, so I see no pressure looking for a replacement.

To stop that useless discussion: Yes, we evaluated all available option. For now, TigerVNC (java) seems to be the best, and we will use that for V2.0. Later on, we will try to integrate 'spice'.

Useless, really? Is that how your support responds to potential paying customers? I don't think it was useless at all to consider getting rid of JAVA requirements. I am certain many prefer not to use install JAVA just to use any product.

I do agree with you that Proxmox's implementation of TigerVNC is quite good in terms of performance.

yes, useless for now. as we evaluated already the facts and the decision is made, work is done for 2.0 and also the future is clear (spice).

Feel free to get in touch with our commercial offerings, this is a community channel where you get everything for zero. Its really funny to see people registered with free mails accounts, hiding their real names and company, warning us that they will PROBABLY buy services or support the community project ... and immediately complaining about our project and decisions made. and most times with IP´s from US.

But also if you pay us we do not decide the other way in this subject. I will close the thread as everything to the topic is already said.
