[SOLVED] Installation issues : "Create LV's" stuck at 3% on MS-01.

Hi everyone,

I have a very weird situation here...
So, I installed Proxmox VE 8.3 on my Minisforum MS-01 a few months ago (with a wireless keyboard and a usb mouse, Graphical installation).
No problems at all. Installation toke less than 3 minutes.

Today, I'm trying to reinstall Proxmox VE 8.4, nothing change, same hardware, same configuration, same USB Stick (created with Etcher), same keyboard and same mouse.
Now, every attempt sticks on "Create LV's ... 3%". First time I've tried, it stayed 2 hours at this screen (I hard reset installation), second try , the same, and the installation never ended.

What I've tried:
  • Boot on GParted, erase all my SSD.
  • Tested the SSD Health with Ultimate Boot CD Tools : everything ok, health at 100%.
  • Install without mouse connected : same issue
  • Install in Terminal UI : same issue.
  • Install in Debug mode : black screen for an hour.
  • Install Proxmox 8.3 (initial installation worked) instead of the 8.4 version : same issue.
I tried to install Windows 11 LTSC, just to test, everything work fine, installation toke less than 5 minutes.
I guess it's not Proxmox but my hardware, but it worked the first time, in a few minutes, very weird...

Configuration:
  • Minisforum MS-01 13900H
  • 96 DDR5
  • SSD 1 : Western Digital SN700 2Tb
  • SSD 2 and 3 : Seagate Firecuda 530 1Tb

Any ideas?

I see lots of previous reports in the forums about this.

I didn't go through all but several wrokarounds are cited:
In the few cases I've had trouble installing, I always used the last workaround. Please do report back here if any of those leads to a solution.
 
LVM will wipe the metadata when creating a thinpool.. one some broken SSDs/NVMe devices, this can take ages.. if it works with 8.3, that might mean that the kernel changed how it wipes your particular model..

Hello guys,

So, I erased all my SSD with Paragon Partition Manager and now it work! Very weird...
All my SSD are brand new, so I don't believe that 3 new SSD was the problem.
As I mentioned, I've tested without mouse and I've wait more than an hour, same issue.

So for me, erase every SSD with Paragon work well, now it toke 5 minutes to install Proxmox!

Thanks for the nomodeset boot option, I didn't know that, will try if I got the same issue on my Intel NUC in the future.

that probably means that whatever Paragon does when erasing the SSD makes wiping faster afterwards ;)

Interesting, maybe this could be added to the FAQ, including a suggestion on how to wipe any disks that are not factory-new.
Adding this to "test someday soon" list.
