Hi all,
I started to test Unraid few days ago, but I realized that I can't do with Unraid a thing I wanted to do (see below). Unraid doesn't support it right now. I was thinking also in TrueNAS Scale but Unraid allows me to have disks of different size.
I have a DS4243 shelf (with a WinPC+H310+DrivePool), but I'm not using it 24/7, I only use it "on demand". I was thinking to have an Unraid array for the DS4243 and stopping the array while not using the shelf, but then I can't have Docker/VM running. If I stop the shelf without stopping the array, for sure it will be a mess ( disks disabled, parity rebuilds ... ).
So I think that virtualizing Unraid under PVE could be a good option. I can passthrough the H310 to the Unraid VM and start/stop the array "on demand". Is it ok?
Then the other VMs, Docker/LXC will be created directly in PVE.
Recently I got a Dell R720, with 8xLFF and another H310 in "it mode". I used the Unraid ZFS plugin to create a pool with the 8 disks from R720. Then, If I move to PVE, can this ZFS pool be "imported" into PVE?
The final picture could be the R720 with 2 x H310 (it mode). One for a ZFS pool with 8 disks. The another one for the DS4243 with passthrough to a Unraid VM. And finally a NVME in a PCIe card for the VMs/Docker/LXC and a small SSD for the PVE. Is this something feasible?
Thanks!
