[SOLVED] Grub install error: embedding is not possible

Hi,

I'm attempting to install Proxmox 4.1 in to a small virt capable Nettop unit with a 1 TB HDD. I've tried installation by CD ROM & USB - attempting to make the HDD the primary device in each case.

The disk is detected as /dev/sda and installation runs no problem, but right at the end, frustratingly, grub fails to install.

The error I find is:

Attempting to install GRUB to a disk with multiple partition labels. This is not supported yet.

Followed by:

Embedding is not possible, but this is required for RAID and LVM install.

Has anyone else come across this? I tried to fix the issue via Ubuntu live CD but grub refused to install, coming up with the same error. I'm a bit confused as to what's going on here and what I can do to get round the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

Just to update - even with Debian, Grub failed to install. I used LILO instead and have now got this up and running.

Many thanks.

[EDIT]

My fix was to undertake the Debian installation method and when Grub failed, I dropped back to the installation summary menu and picked LILO instead. Everything after that just worked and I'm assuming the problem was hardware specific.
