I have a peculiar issue when my headless PBS boots. I do not run the PBS 24x7 as I only need to backup/verify data in small time windows, so I use a vzdump-hook script on my PVE to startup and shutdown my PBS when needed. If I have a monitor connected the PBS boots without issue. If I have a screen session to the PBS serial console open or open, but disconnected (CTRL-a d) it boots without issue. If I have neither a monitor attached nor a serial console open/open, but disconnected the PBS hangs in GRUB. If I open a serial console while it is hung, I have just a blank screen and it will continue to boot when I press enter.
PBS is fully up-to-date. I work around this by ensuring I have a serial console open/disconnected on another machine. Anyone else have this issue or any ideas on what may be causing this behavior?
EDIT: Adding "nomodeset" to the grub command line does not solve the problem as suggested by many threads on the internet.
