Fresh Proxmox install - connections going down after some time

Hello,

I am completely new to Proxmox and have set it up on a Supermicro X9 motherboard with dual Xeon processors. I am using the Supermicro onboard intel gigabit LAN to connect the server to my router.

I have something strange going on, when I start the server I can connect to Proxmox through my set IP address, however, after some time usually 1-3 hours, any current connection to Proxmox is cut and then it is as if the Proxmox is offline. Can't ping it or anything.

However, when I connect to the server through IPMI (on-board Supermicro provided IPMI), I can see the screen shows that the Proxmox is running and I am met by the CLI "log-in" screen.

Anyone have any idea what is going on?

A bit more information, the only way to reset or get the connection back up is by restarting the whole server. The connection to Proxmox then works again (tried lots today, sometimes as little as 10 minutes and then it goes down again).

Troubleshooting I have done so far:

1) I changed the IP of Proxmox to something very high (still inside my IP range) and reserved it in the router.
2) I tried using LAN2 on my server instead, no change.
3) I have changed the IPMI of the board to dedicated only, not change.
4) Added ipv6.disable=1 to /etc/default/grub as my home network does not support ipv6
5) Wiped the SSD drive clean and reinstalled all Proxmox. Still have the same issue! :(
6) Tried downgrading to Proxmox v5, freezing persists.
7) Tried downgrading to Proxmox v4.4, freezing / issue is still there...

Will keep you updated on what I try.

I am actually wondering if it isn't the entire Proxmox that freezes. As I can still log in through IPMI and it loads the CLI Proxmox login screen - however I can't write or do any input. Only thing that works is to shut down the entire server and start again.

I can imagine that you want to see logs to troubleshoot further, apologies but I am a beginner, whenever I go to syslog it looks like it is only from the session where I most recently started the server. How do I retrieve the logs in Proxmox?

Hi,

you can see the syslog over the GUI on Node level -> System -> Syslog.
If you like to see the syslogs on shell, they are loaded in /var/log/syslog.

less /var/log/syslog
