Hi,
just move an VM-disk from ceph to lvm with "remove original disk".
After successfull transfer, the removing fail because of an existing shnapshot... :(

Will an snapshot transfered too if the target support snapshots (like lvm-thin)?
Nevertheless an warning will be good to have the choice of no move or discard the snapshot first.

moving snapshots from one storage technology to another is usually not possible (there is no way to convert a ceph snapshot to a zfs snapshot, etc..). but yeah, a check would be good ;) could you file a bug report about this?

that is the expected behavior, at least I do not see a great way to improve, maybe an additional warning in the beginning.?

as the snapshot is NOT moved to the new storage, you can still rollback. If we would remove the original disk, you cannot rollback.

you can always remove the snapshot afterwards and then you can delete the original file.

btw, we also cannot include snapshots in the vzdump backups.

Hi Tom,
yes - an warning will be enough for me (and very helpfull).
as the snapshot is NOT moved to the new storage, you can still rollback.
If I rollback, will the new vm-disk (on the other storage) be deletet, or stay there as an dead (unvisible?) one?

Not removing is the right (save) decision, this is ok with an warning I think.

yes, but I don't see then the original disk - or appear the disk after snapshot delete as unused?

That's ok (if the last running state is backed up), for this reason I can do many backups ;-)

this LVM volume is not deleted but not visible in the GUI. seems not perfect.

yes, its "unused"
