I noticed that a lot of the background tasks (if not all) open in a console-like window and the indication is not the best. It should be nice if the backend packs standardized info about task progress into the log - maybe in another pipe, or via special formatting. The idea is the front end to how cleaner version of the task progress - like:

Backing up VM
[########### ] 60%
[ Stop] [ Continue in background]

And also see the progress in the Tasks tab below - like a pie-chart or bar graph.
or

Shutting down guest
[ ########### ]
[See Log ] [ Stop] [ Continue in background]

for unknown progress tasks.

And when it's done:
[########### ] 60%
[ See Log ] [ Close ]

Getting progress of apt might be challenging, but whatever you can't get progress of you can set to unknown. Backup on the other hand feel like something that can send progress info to the front end.

As a start you can put a [ Close ] button. Having to hit the small cross on the top after every task end is quite annoying. Well maybe change the name to [ Background ] while task is running and [ Close ] after the task is done if you think that people might decide that close stops the task.

I know there are tons of features waiting to be done and this one might not be the highest priority because tasks already work, but it would be nice to have it.

This forum is not the ideal place for feature requests - you can file a bug in the Proxmox Bugzilla, mark it as an enhancement (not a bug) and explain your feature request there. It is more likely to be seen by developers when posted on the correct channel.
