Error COMRESET failed (errno=-16) when installing Proxmox

Hi everyone !

I made a fresh Proxmox install yesterday. The system is installed on a SSD, no issue here. After that i created a mirrored Zpool (Raid1) with 2x 1To HDD (a Toshiba and a brand new WD). When creating the zpool, it failed and the error

ata6: COMRESET failed (errno=-16)

appears. The drive connected to the ata6 port is the new WD drive. Sometimes, after the zpool creation fails, the drive does not appear anymore on fdisk -l.

I try and change the Sata cable, the sata port, but nothing changes. If i connect the WD drive on a new sata port, with a new sata cable, the same error appears, with the new port number (ata5 instead of ata6).

Can it be the new drive that's faulty ? Or is it software side ?

What kind of drive is the WD?
There are a few series of WD drives which use SMR technology, and this is not working too well with ZFS - see e.g. https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/z...ulted-too-in-a-raidz2-rpool.76290/post-339460

My drive is a WD Blue 1To, WD10EZEX. it's suppose to be CMR, at least it's what's written on the WD website... Still investigating.
