Just saw a this video showing how to consolidate local (pve) with local-lvm (pve) onto a unified local (pve) drive by @ProgrammingStuff22 on YouTube.

This looks quite interesting. My local (pve) recently inflated due to some experiments I was doing with rclone.

Does anyone know if this can be done while I have some VMs on a separate ZFS drive? is any of the Proxmox OS utilizing local (pve) or local-lvm (pve)?

In standard installation "local" is a directory type storage, ie a folder on the root disk. Root disk is where entire "Proxmox OS" and all of it configuration is stored.
local-lvm, again in standard install, is a logical volume dedicated to VM disk storage but sharing the backend physical disk with "local" and the root disk.

If you are not using local-lvm, you can extend root disk with the space currently allocated to local-lvm. That will automatically extend "local" as its located on root disk.
There are many guides on the net about manipulating LVM, the video you watched may be one of them. Read/watch a few and it should not be difficult.
