Debian 8

There are probably issues with using Debian 8 in a CT. CT's use Proxmox's kernel, which is 2.6 version. Debian 8 switched to systemd, which relies on kernel 3.x. I've read it'll be possible by switching to upstart, but it might not be easy.

I have tried to upgrade a debian x86 wheezy to jessie.
Everything is ok but a dependencie.

How can I check if systemd is used ?

Hello,
I do not know if you want to upgrade from Debian 7 or want to know, how I made this template.

If you want to upgrade from Debian 7. I don't know if it's possible. You can try to backup your CT and then edit the sources.list to represent the jessie repo and then apt-get update/upgrade/dist-upgrade.

I made this template by using the command debootstrap(apt-get install deboostrap) and then download Debian jessie via that tool. After that, you can chroot into the "folder" and set the nameservers and disable unused ttys.
See here: http://openvz.org/Debian_template_creation
Please note, that it's for Debian wheezy and therefore outdated. Some commands may be different or not working at all.

Best regards

Hi Tom,
Any news about Proxmox 4.0 and Debian 8 template for OpenVZ?
I'm waiting to update all my servers ;)
Best regards,
Alain

Hello,
with Proxmox 4.0 OpenVZ is deprecated and will be completely replaced with LXC. You can not run Debian 8 on an OpenVZ node without
facing any issues.

Best regards,
Henry

Thanks Henry,
I have a Debian 8 running on a Proxmox 3.x server, I upgraded a Debian Squeeze container to Jessie without any problem (of course still using sysvinit).
There is two beta containers of Debian 8 at OpenVz site, I don't know if these templates can be used on Proxmox 3.X (maybe they were made for a superior kernel), I will try next week. https://openvz.org/w/index.php?title=Download/template/precreated#Beta_templates
Take a look to this link: http://lists.openvz.org/pipermail/devel/2015-May/031744.html

Is that confirmed? Any news or deadline about Proxmox 4 development?
