There are probably issues with using Debian 8 in a CT. CT's use Proxmox's kernel, which is 2.6 version. Debian 8 switched to systemd, which relies on kernel 3.x. I've read it'll be possible by switching to upstart, but it might not be easy.
Hello,
I do not know if you want to upgrade from Debian 7 or want to know, how I made this template.
If you want to upgrade from Debian 7. I don't know if it's possible. You can try to backup your CT and then edit the sources.list to represent the jessie repo and then apt-get update/upgrade/dist-upgrade.
I made this template by using the command debootstrap(apt-get install deboostrap) and then download Debian jessie via that tool. After that, you can chroot into the "folder" and set the nameservers and disable unused ttys.
See here: http://openvz.org/Debian_template_creation
Please note, that it's for Debian wheezy and therefore outdated. Some commands may be different or not working at all.
Hello,
with Proxmox 4.0 OpenVZ is deprecated and will be completely replaced with LXC. You can not run Debian 8 on an OpenVZ node without
facing any issues.
