CPU Sockets and Core/Socket reconfiguration

Dear, Friends I couple days ago I got a IBM x3650 with 8 GB of RAM and only one Processor Xeon Quad Core 2.8mhz. the main idea is to configure 3 vkm machines and assign one process for each one vkm machine:

In this case I have two question:

1.- The Following items:
CPU Sockets: and Cores/Socket: Can I use those option to configure each procesor for each one vm?, how Can I assign one procesor for one vkm machine?

2.- In case That I will buy other similar procesor I need to reinstall promox? to see the other CPU Sockets or Cores/Socket?


1 Windows 2003 server r2
1 XP sp3
1 Debian server (ldap and samba)

Hi,
no - with CPU/Cores can you give the amount of CPU-Cores to the VM. For licensing-options you can select between cpu and cores (e.g. 4cpus/1core is not usable with winxp, 2cpus/2cores are).
You have no control which physical CPU/Core are used.

It's linux, not win$ - you don't need a new installation.

He....y thanks for the prompt answer, really some time I forgod the Linux power, but in this case Proxmox will assign automatically each resource for each VKM, however if I one that and especial VKM need more procesor I can configure the KVM in the following way:

CPU/Sockets=1
Core/Sockets =2

does the IBM x3650 works well for you? any issue?
