Hello.

While stopping the server from the panel I get this message

TASK ERROR: VM quit/powerdown failed - got timeout

I can stop the server from the console without problems
qm stop ID

pveversion
pve-manager/5.2-11/13c2da63 (running kernel: 4.15.18-8-pve)

shutdown and stop are 2 different commands, i guess if you would do "qm shutdown ID" you also would get the timeout

some guest os require that you configure acpi actions (e.g. windows, or some ubuntu desktop versions)

a possible solution would be to install the guest agent, then the poweroff does not use acpi anymore but the guest agent

Are the changes in the options view of the VM still pending (red text)?
If so please stop the VM, restart and than try to shutdown again.
Which guest OS is running in the VM?

There is nothing yet installed, it is being launched Ubuntu server 18.10

I just installed a ubuntu 18.10 server VM with default configs and the shutdown command works without any additional settings, even without the qemu guest agent. Can you please post your vm config.
