[SOLVED] Adding a new Node with VMs/LXCs to cluster

So it seems that you cannot add a node to a cluster if said node already has VMs/LXCs configured and running. Presumably this is a failsafe in case of ID replication.

Is there a recognised way of adding the node to the cluster without having to migrate all the VMs/LXCs away, making a clean node before it can be added to the cluster?

I've seem some YT videos suggesting to shut down all VMs/LXCs, make a backup of each of the VM/LXC conf files to your local PC, deleting the conf files on the node, adding the node to the cluster and then re uploading the VM/LXC conf files back to the node.

Is this the recommended way?

Hi,
The recommended way is to do a full backup [0] for the VMs/CTs, join the node to cluster then restore the VMs back.

Presumably after backing up the VMs/CTs, I would then need to delete them from the node I'm adding, so that the node can be added without error. Then I can restore the VMs back?

Yes, after you do a backup for the VMs/CTs (double check if the backups are valid!) then you have to remove the VMs/CTs from the node. After the node join to the cluster, you can restore the VMs/CTs to the same node.

This is the recommended, easiest and fastest way
