10Gb NICs compatibility with proxmox 8.4.1

Hello

I would like to know if this NICs are compatible out of the box (no drivers needed to be installed or possible troubleshooting) with the proxmox 8.4.1

1. HP Ethernet 10Gb 2-Port 561FLR-T Adapter - HSTNS-B007
2. Intel X540-T2 X540-AT2 10G PCI-E Dual RJ45 Ports

If it works out of the box with modern Linux kernels, then it stands a very high chance of working fine with Proxmox. But you'd have to do the legwork to research that question. Often, the product listing will tell you. Or at the very least, you can figure out the chipset that these NICs use. And that would be a very good indication for Linux support.

Both seem to be based on the same older Intel 82599 chipset that is used for many 10G adapters of the 500 series. I can only handle 100, 1000 and 10000 Mbit/s, no intermediate speeds like 2.5 Gbps or 5 Gbps. Driver compatibility is generally good, also for FreeBSD (like pfSense, OpnSense).

However, being an old 10 GbE adapter, it draws a lot of power compared to more modern variants like the X550-T2 or SFP+-Based cards that can be connected via DAC cables, like the X520-DA2, which is based on the same chipset. I have the latter running on both OpnSense and Proxmox.
