Hi there.
I've created a 2nd VD on VM setting wrong destination (selected local-zfs instead of NFS storage). Now I'm unable to detach and remove this VD. Obviously tried to do so with VM turned off. This VD hasn't been used at all.
can't remove drive 'ide0' - protection mode enabled (500)...
Thought so just want to be sure... What about different storage types? Let's say I want to create VD on attached NFS NAS 1st, then move it directly to ZFS filesystem on proxmox host?
Hi there.
I'm struggling to get proper driver for VirtioSCSI VD.
OS is installed on IDE VD but I want to create a second VD in VirtIOSCSI mode. My goal is to copy some data to that drive and then move it to newer OS VM.
Now, I already tried ome various outdated virtio driver isos - no luck so far.
Here's the output:
root@??????:~# free -h
total used free shared buff/cache available
Mem: 15G 8.9G 5.8G 54M 1.0G 6.5G
Swap: 0B 0B 0B
It actually doesn't look any suspicious BUT...
I use "Etcher" as a usb-tool for PM installers. Works every time so far (sometimes pops up some error on launch though - yet still works. So far had no issues booting from USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports.
Hi there...
I'm running PM on a pretty cheap server (4-core Xeon, 16GB ECC, 2x1TB SATA@ZFS).
For now there is only one VM running with 2 cores and 4GB RAM.
I've tweaked zfs arc RAM usage to max 4GB (min. 2GB, max 4GB).
Currently ZFS RAM usage shows ca 2,5GB.
Thing is I have to replace old...
I think the Proxmox installer itself detects if hardware is virt-capable or not (if not the installation process won't allow to continue). I think I saw some errors while installing PM on a regular old desktop PC with some s.775 cpu on it.
E5450 itself should support VT-x easily. Might be BIOS...
Perhapse some RAID controller issue?
What's the H310 RAID setup? Firmware also matters since compared to DELL PERC firmware IT firmware (LSI one) significantly increases queue depth...
See: https://www.vladan.fr/flash-dell-perc-h310-with-it-firmware/
Also try non-raid (JBOD/HBA) and setup ZFS...
Not sure but what's the point of sharing Freenas VM storage back to Proxmox host (??)...
Is Proxmox host gonna be used in home or production environment?
I'd consider twin-ssd (RAID) for Proxmox host + VM's, REDs for NAS storage...
Here's a quick update.
The issue surely caused by WinPoweer itself, well the OLD version to be exact...
I got latest version (V5.6.0.5) and installation process completed successfully - this time no harm to Proxmox itself. UPS software works, just a small hint: it's an awful ups software. It's...
Hi there.
My task was finding and installing ups software on Proxmox for a less-known rack-ups unit (to be more specific: UPS GT POWER GT S 3000 RT2U).
Now, I've noticed that ups unit is being managed by WinPower software.
So next step is to find software itself.
I've found install package...
Just wondering if that platform is for production environment or just testing? Non-ECC RAM might matter on ZFS because of RAM dependency on ZFS in general.
Hi there.
Just some theoretical questions.
Never used NFS as VD storage in production environment, so...:
How fragile might be a VM with VD's stored on attached NFS (lets say QNAP).
I wonder how VD might behave during a sudden network connection lost. Does VM just crashes and requires manual...
Hi there.
I performed a fresh installation of PM on a brand new Fujitsu RX2520 server.
Then, after some PM setup and tweak I performed a Win2016 VM installation.
After few days of work (updates, installing windows software etc.) I let the VM go in production environment.
Config as folows:
:~#...
In my scenario (with daily zfs-auto-snapshots) I'm also using additional Windows VM diffential backup tool for some data folders. Anyway seems that each differential backup takes pretty much same ammount of disk space as a regular "full" backup...
On the other hand making a data backup under VM...
Hi there...
I've installed some Win2003/Win2008R2 VMs and have same issue.
I got pretty much all virtio drivers installed and running (Ballooning, Qemu Agent etc.) - yet still got one annoying "unknown device" (device ID: "ACPI\QEMU\VGID") on device manager list.
I already tried multiple virtio...
Is your VMware machine a windows one? If so u could try using Disk2VHD free windows tool (less than 1MB :) ) directly from VM itself to create a VHDX disk image file. Unfortunately it will take some time though.
Anyway - I've successfully migrated a physical machine (old win2003 std) to proxmox...
Double check if your drive is properly selected in Proxmox VM 'Boot order' options...
PS. Renaming your vmdk to raw is actually NOT a proper converting method. Renaming txt to mp3 wont make a proper audio file :)
