Proxmox high-availability configuration with usb to RJ45 adapter

Hello,

I have created a proxmox server on a Dell Optilex 7010 computer which only has an RJ45 socket. More and more servers are being created on it. My question concerns the availability that can be configured so that the computer remains permanently accessible from the local network.
Is it possible to connect :
1- a USB to RJ45 adapter (https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00584779.html) with an RJ45 cable plugged into a USB socket on the computer
OR
2- a USB to RJ45 cable (https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00592085.html)

so that if the RJ45 socket fails, the USB socket takes over?

you need to create an active-backup network bond with your 2 NICs.

I wouldn't want to buy the adapter if it wasn't possible to do this.

I mean create a logical bond to do link aggregration

Possible, sure, but for the same cost you can get a plugin Ethernet card. USB Ethernet has a tendency to overheat under load and also suffers from poor bandwidth.

OK, but does the dell micro optilex 7010 allow a second plug-in network card?

Sure. You can plug into the WiFi slot, not sure what port (M2 a+e?) exactly your model has, but this is a 1G fiber that works in another Micro (goes into the serial port cutout).

There are other options out there for 2.5 and even 10G, not sure if they’re all the same.
