Hey all!
I just installed four brand-new unopened WD Red SA500 2TB SSD drives for a completely new Proxmox server.
Although the drives are brand new, I had them in storage for a while because they were bought for another project, but never used.

However, when I first plugged them in proxmox, I get that the wearout is 99%

Which is a bit alarming, I did full long tests on them
Code:
smartctl -t long /dev/sdX

And the results are a bit weird

This is one of them, the other change in the "Total Bad Blocks" attribute, but you can see the Power_On_Hours and the Power_Cycle are 0.
I'm puzzled.

Again, these drives have been sitting on a shelf for 2 years, but I peeled opened the invidudual packages myself this morning. They (should) be solid.

It is a WD thing on some of their new drives. Total bad blocks I think is factory bad blocks, not sure why they made that visible, its going to cause confusion and panic, the one that is useful to you is "grown bad blocks" This is if new bad blocks appear after you start using it. (this is what is normally visible).

Confusion and panic sums very well what I've felt.

Thank you for the information!

Your database is a bit out of date.
Code:
update-smart-drivedb
would help to update.
I think it will not change anything, but it's nice to have it updated.
You were right, it didn't change a thing, but I doesn't hurt I guess:
