Email Notification on Hardware- and Softwareraid when hdd fails?

Hi All,

I like to buy a new Server with D2616 Raidcontroller, has anyone the same setup ? I like to install proxmox 1.9 with the baremetal ISO is Proxmox working with D2616 and how can I get a Email when a hdd fails ?

I have another (cheap) Server only with Softwareraid how can it work with that installation when a hdd fails ?

Will you create a RAID Volume with your Raidcontroller or will you use it only as JBOD?
Proxmox asks you for a e-mail adress during the installation, this will automatically inform you when a disk has failed!

I will create a Raid 5 array (4 disks), I hope the d2616 will be recognized by default with the 1.9 ISO.

How should I configure the Softwareraid 1 System to get Email-Notification ?

Jeder anständige Raidcontroller kann selbstständig mails schicken. Sollte das nicht der Fall kann man sich diversen tools oder cronjobs oder snmp oder sonst was selbst helfen. Für einen Server macht eine Nagiosüberwachung sowieso sinn wenn nicht sogar verpflichtend.

Hmm,
how should that work? If you have the right raid-level, a failed disk is not visible for the guest-os.
Some Raidcontroller have an own network-connector and you can configure an "mailalarm". Or you use an monitoring solution which check the controller (normaly there are command-tools to check the status).
An softwareraid can checked due the file /proc/mdstat.

The raidcontroller software can be configured to send alarms, e.g. Adaptec ASM (http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Adaptec_Storage_Manager).

Other vendors also got such tools.

My Distributor (in vienna) told me that "Debian FSE (Fujitsu Server Edition)" is supported, do you know that ?

I assume your distributor tested it. If it does not work your distributor will/should help.
