Hi

I notice that proxmox is offering me 0.7.7 versions of ZFS packages. I was under the impression that these weren't safe and the OpenZFS devs advise to not use them. Is this the case for proxmox?

Updated 4/9/18: We've found a serious regression in 0.7.7 (#7401). Please use 0.7.6 or 0.7.8.

While technically not losing data, it makes it a challenge to get to and comes across as data corruption.

I cant post actual links as I'm a new user.

We already fixed that regression in our packages, so it is safe to update.

It took me some time to figure this out. It's only in the headers as described in https://git.proxmox.com/?p=zfsonlinux.git;a=commit;h=c0f28922e8ec63f7836b8235cfce7ed96b2a7d0a of the kernel package.

I think it is best to just increase the ZFS packaging version as it was done with ZOL upstream to make it clearer. I also discussed this very topic yesterday with a collegue and I told him not to update to pve zfs 0.7.7 due to the "missing patch". I also did not know.

Thanks for letting me know.

I agree with @LnxBil regarding incrementing the patch number even if you independently fixed the issue but all good and thanks.

we already agreed on doing a no-change bump release next week, with the next round of kernel updates.
