Hi,

I've downloaded Xubuntu desktop 8.04 and try to install it on KVM via Proxmox, unfortunately, without succeed!
The problem here is mouse in java VNC (integrated with Proxmox), it couldn't be moved.

Have you ever experienced this problem?
Could you show me the way?

Works here without problems (just tried with the i386 ISO). Did you select Linux 2.6 as OS Type? If not, stop the machine - change it and start again.

Hi Tom,

I am experiencing the same problem with Fedora 10 (i386). Tried to install but failed because mouse is not moving.

PVE 1.4beta1 - KVM install and Linux 2.6 selected.

Fedora 11 works. the problem is always the X configuration inside, but newer distributions works now out of the box.

I'm using i386 ISO as well.
Guest Type: Linux 2.6

I'm using an USB Mouse, works perfectly with Windows Guest.

It's strange!

Thank you Tom,

I am trying to test AMAHI and it only runs on Fedora 10 (currently). :((http://www.amahi.org/).

I guess I have to wait until AMAHI supports Fedora 11...

It just does not run out of the box but I assume it will be easy to fix. For Debian Lenny, I just take a look how Ubuntu did it, and just move the config to Lenny, works fine.

So try to google for this issue, or install a Fedora 11 and check the settings/compare to Fedora 10.

Thx Tom.

I am not that heavy into Linux. Which config are you refering to (X11?) ?
Can you point me to right direction?
I would like to try it as you suggested.

Just wanted to share this information:

After upgrading from 1.4beta1 to 1.4beta2 I tried to install Fedora 10 again.
This is what happened:

- During installation mouse was working (it did not with 1.4beta1!!)
- after the installation (first reboot) mouse stopped working
- I continued with the keyboard and ran a complete update from fedora 10
- rebooted again and mouse was working again !! :D

So for me my mouse problem seems to be solved. Even so I can not say why . Testing AMAHI right now.
It's worth a try with Xubuntu I guess.

kind regards

You've got a big luck. :p
Could you share your experiences in working with step 3: running update while mouse couldn't be moved?

out of curiosity I setup a XUbuntu 8.04.1 (I love proxmox for that - its so easy to setup a new machine :-) )
Using 1.4beta2. My pve server is a "headless" server. No mouse and keyboard. On my client I use a USB mouse as well.

I used the xubuntu-8.04.1-alternate-i386.iso for installation and mouse worked right away!!!

Also tried to access the Application Menue by keyboard - but I could not figure out what kind of shortcut is used to do that or what the shortcut for a terminal windows is. :( :(.
(<CTRL-Esc> as mentioned in many posts on the internet does not work since it interferes with my windows desktop). If you can find the shortcut for opening a terminal window then you can run "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" for updates.

But maybe there are better ways to do it - but I do not know.

Hi jnovax,

after digging arround - here is what you can do:

- Install Xubuntu (I used the alternate installation - no mouse is required)
- after reboot - log in
- Once you are on the desktop hit <Alt-F2> which brings up the program launcher
- type "xterm" and hit enter and it will bring up the terminal window.

now you can run the "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade".
It will take a while.
After the update reboot again "sudo shutdown -r now" and see if your mouse problem is solved...;)

Good luck :-)

Thank you very much! :D
I'll try and report result to you all.

Unbelievable! It's working!
Xubuntu 804 Alternative works perfectly in Proxmox 1.4b2 without any problems. I even don't have to upgrade OS to make mouse works.
I wasted last week to install many Linux OSs in prior version of Proxmox without succeed! And now, I made it on the first try.

1.4b2 is absolutely nice!
Thank BitRausch, thank Proxmox.

PS: CentOS is working, too. ^_^

I got this issue too with Kubuntu 10.04 (64bit) and I solved it changing the "Video Graphic Adapter" in the Virtual Machine's options

hope this help

Best regards,
Paolo

Hi Paolo,

What is the option that you select for "Video Graphic Adapter" exactly?

Hi
I solved it without knowledge... maybe only luck, but I'm on testing environment

So here the steps I've done
I had "default" set, and the mouse works until I restored the VM.

After the qmrestore the mouse stop working
Maybe it matter the restore was done from NAS Storage to Cluster Node (not to the Master)...
Then I powered off the VM, I change the Option "Video Graphics Adapter" in "Cirrus Logic GD5446", I powered on the VM and the mouse works again.

I have ProxMox v. 1.5 kernel 2.6.32 on Debian 5 (installed using the repository, not using the proxmox ISO)

here what I've done
