[SOLVED] Windows Server 2019 unable to reboot

Hello forum,

I am having an "interessting" situation with Windows 2019 servers:
If I reboot a VM via the regular Windows menu (Windows button -> Power icon -> reboot) it starts to reboot but freezes at the last blue Windows reboot screen.
It will not come online again and I need to kill the VM and restart it manually.

But if I reboot the VM via the PVE GUI it works without any issues.


Any ideas where this issues could come from?

Hi,

When does this behavior happen? After a long time of running, the Windows VM? If so, we have a similar issue here: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/windows-vms-stuck-on-boot-after-proxmox-upgrade-to-7-0.100744/ If the issue on your side is different - you could check the Syslog when the VM reboot in order to see if there is anything interesting in the syslog/journalctl. Also, please provide us with the output of pveversion -v and the VM config.

Hello @Moayad , I usually need to reboot them once per month (Windows updates) - would that be "a long time?"

Okay I think your mentioned issue is the same to myself.
Not sure if this is interessting for you but I run my PVE servers on the current kernel --> Linux 5.15.35-3-pve x86_64
