Hi -
I have a win 2003 server 280gb scsi drive. I'm trying to move it to proxmox ve.

This is what I'm doing

1- using Selfimage
2- transfering by qemu-nbd to proxmox ve 300gb ide bus
3- Start the VM and see the win 2003 logo then 0x000007b

any ideas...Thanks:confused:

I think I did read that....and I did the mergeide.reg. restarted the box. No Luck.

Am I still missing something ?? I have no problem re-reading it :)

0x000007b means that the controller has changed. I didn't try to move SCSI-based systems, but with IDE ones it helped to install the default IDE driver, then reboot the system on the old host, then shut it down and clone the image.

Maybe you have both SCSi and IDE controllers in your system, you delete the IDE drivers but the system boots from SCSi, so that makes no effect.

You lost me a little on the last sentence. Yes the system(host) has IDE controller( for the cdrom) and adaptec AIC 7899 scsi/raid controller for the Hard Drive(scsi) and it does boot off the scsi drive.

you cannot boot scsi with windows, use ide as boot disk.

after this works, change it to virtio, but this is a second step.

Tom -

Sorry...can you explain in more detail...is there a sticky on it

Sorry again Thanks

post the config from the windows VM (cat /etc/qemu-server/VMID.conf)

Thanks!

proxmox:/etc/qemu-server# ls
101.conf 102.conf 103.conf 104.conf
proxmox:/etc/qemu-server# vi 101.conf
name: whatsup
ide2: cdrom,media=cdrom
vlan0: rtl8139=16:C3:2D:F9:D5:00
bootdisk: ide0
ostype: w2k3
ide0: local:101/vm-101-disk-1.qcow2
memory: 512
sockets: 1
onboot: 0
cores: 1

Your config looks right, it is using ide for the boot drive.

I have moved many win 2003 vms from physical servers into proxmox.
The basic steps I followed are:
1. Run mergeide.reg on the physical machine
2. Turn off physical machine, do not boot it up.
3. Copy the physical machine disks to the virtual disks
4. Turn on vm using ide for the boot drive it should boot up fine since you previously injected ide drivers using mergeide.reg

How to do step #1 and #3 are covered on the wiki page I linked to.

As others mentioned you should change to virtio after you get the vm to work.

1. Run mergeide.reg on the physical machine---i did that and did a restart

2 and 3 (i used selfimage) so the machine is on.

2. Turn off physical machine, do not boot it up.
3. Copy the physical machine disks to the virtual disks

When i do turn it on I see the win2003 logo for a quick second then 0X7B BSOD

4. Turn on vm using ide for the boot drive it should boot up fine since you previously injected ide drivers using mergeide.reg

I never had any luck with the SelfImage method.

Using the CloneZilla method would likely be the easiest:
http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Migrati...roxmox_VE_.28KVM.29_using_Clonezilla_Live_CDs

1. Run mergeide.reg on the physical machine
2. Turn off physical machine, do not boot up windows.
3. Boot up CloneZilla in your VM and your physical server, clone the physical to the VM.
4. Reboot the vm using ide for the boot drive it should boot up fine since you previously injected ide drivers using mergeide.reg
