Good afternoon everybody,
I have a big server that hosts various VMs (3 windows server 2008 and 2 debian 8), the performance of these machines seems great, so everything runs very fast. For reasons that now I can not explain to you, I need to run on this server a couple of windows 2000 pro sp4 dedicated to the execution of an old program written in Cobol. I can not figure out what the are best settings and especially if it is worthwhile to use the virtio drivers that among other things I can not find, cause in the virtio website support stop to windows xp. I need this because the performance seems very poor when compared to other machines that are certainly more costly in terms of resources than an old windows 2000.
thanks a lot for those who can give me some advice on the best settings, I google everywhere even in Arabic but the suggestion of Proxmox stop to windows xp.

IMHO, there are no working virtio-drivers besides network, so you have to use IDE or SCSI (if you find a working driver for that).

The performance killer is Windows 2000 itself. It is very, very slow. I installed a VM for performance reasons on an overclocked i7 6700K with 4.5 GHz on a Samsung Pro 950 NVMe and the thing is still extremly slow. Windows 8 boots in less then 5 seconds, Windows 2000 runs over 60 to the Desktop.
