Hi,

Maybe it’s a silly question but I’m a beginner trying to learn.

My proxmox node (Intel nuc) has Ethernet and Wifi. My laptop doesn’t have Ethernet.

I’d like to be able to use the wifi interface to directly connect to the node (web GUI). Is that something that is achievable ? If so could you help me figure out how ?

Thank you

you can plug your intel nuc to your router via ethernet, and connect your laptop to your wifi access point. you should be able to connect to the node with the IP address that your nuc receives from your router (that you can see/edit in the setup process).

Yes but it can be a bit more involved.

You need to install something that manages and sets up wifi, nowadays I'd recommend iwd for that, its not as intrusive as NetworkManager, wicd or similar desktop solutions and plays thus quite well with Proxmox VE's ifupdown(2) network management stack. To install iwd (or similar) you'd need internet on the PVE, e.g., using a physical LAN connection like oguz described.

Then you probably want to setup a routed network config, or use NAT as Linux bridge with WIFI is not really easy to setup and need HW support.

There are a few threads in the forum already, maybe you can find something there but I do not remember a specific how-to or the like, so I'm currently not able to write more than above pointers, I'm afraid.

Indeed, I have that now. However I will soon start to mess up with my network in a way that might, at least temporarily, prevent me from doing that. Hence the question :)

Thanks for the help though

Thank you. You’re already sharing some pointers which is already a lot.

I’ll be looking further in the forums as well.

So accessing the webGui with Wifi.. if the wifi ap is in a router vm, like opnsense... is the output of it, like a 192.168.66.1 , put into a vmrb3 , who then is put into a vmbr4 as nat will then be able to load the gui ?
Can also be quite usefull to be able to rename and not be stuck with vmbzzzz.
