Hi all,

Running a small VDI environment with a selection of Windows 10 VM's. These are all accessed via MS RDP. They don't do anything particularly video intensive but since this is a for a remote teaching environment, a couple of the VM's do use classroom control software that monitors the displays of several other machines.

Performance is generally good, I am using either the 'Default' display option, or 'Standard VGA' with 64MB of memory allocated.

The question here is:

What is the best display hardware configuration for the best video performance on windows VM's accessed via RDP?

Thanks

I am currently trialling the QXL display adapter with 128MB memory.

UPDATE: The two VM's I set to use SPICE, went into a paused state an hour later.

Why is that?

UPDATE:

Windows sleep settings, the QXL pack installs a version of the qemu guest agent which obviously exposes the power interface.

Change the Windows Power Settings to "High Performance", so the VM never sleeps.

If you access via RDP, the "Microsoft Remote Display Adapter" is used.

If you need more performance, you will need really expensive graphic cards with MxGPU support.

Is there any info about performance of those? I've read something on the web that performance is actually very bad for those cards S7150 also on ebay they come very cheap for some reason.

During testing described in proxmox wiki, was the GFX a new or refurbished one ? I have a feeling that datacenters are getting rid of the broken ones and china sells them cheaply after some re-flowing which might contribute to bad performance and crashes etc ...

Did you get the best performance in that mode?
