Use cases for ClamAV

Can be used for both direction. Depends on your rule settings.

You need to disable the rules where you use the virus scanning.

You need to define what you mean with "negatively affect"?

I would not disable virus-scanning or the clamav service, but you can do it if you have a use case for this.

Well, for example, if the pmg smtp filter service is not running, mail would only get sent to localhost. So, if I have no rules that invoke virus scanning with ClamAV and I then disable the service, would it prevent any mail from getting through as is the case with some other crucial PMG-related services?
