Understanding storage

I currently have two drives full of important media files that were in use for a barebone NAS setup. I have mounted the drives to proxmox and it detects them but I am hoping to be able to read/write the already created ext4 partitions within a VM, although i have not been successful in finding a solution to do so.

Does anyone have any tips or can point me in the right direction?

You will need to do all the usual Linux things to mount the drives: Create a directory to mount them to, edit /etc/fstab to mount the drives at boot, If you want to make them available in Proxmox (and I am not sure why you would?) you could add them as directories https://bobcares.com/blog/add-directory-to-pve-proxmox/

Since Proxmox is just Debian, I would install CIFS or NFS onto Proxmox and share these drives as SMB or NFS shares.
