Hi ,

I am newbie on proxmox.
I tried it on an old Dell computer and run pretty good. So , i plan to run on a better computer.
surprisingly installing on a better one and use ssd drive , the VM ubuntu is running very slow and laggy.
I gather information /learn installing proxmox basically from youtube like : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xBUnV2rQ7do
Please help as i do not know where to start to trouble shoot or just miss something on the configuration.
I attached some screen shots of the configuration and the computer hardware.

Thank you
Jim.

First I would try to set the virtial CPU from default type "kvm64" to "host". Dont overcommit your RAM (you aren't doing yet) and keep an eye on the hosts "IO Delay". If your IO delay goes high your disk might be bottlenecking 90 (usually should be single digit).

All the graphics are done by the virtual CPU. What did you choose for Display under Hardware in the VM configuration? Using SPICE (qxl) might help as will an additional virtual core.

As you only start with proxmox, lot of different setting and different pc config do affect. You will have to read a week on proxmox to have usable system or chasing issues all time. Also, start only with live iso as : xubuntu. All will be quick and easy to confirm and not chase, bad install, bad config, bad setup from ubuntu, cutting countless of frenetic update. Basically : disconnect your modem, install prox, spin a vm with live iso and all will quite properly give you a workable system. io process and type of cpu need to have special setting... all over wiki. Skip youtube stuff.

Youtube videos are great, but they still won't save you from reading the whole PVE documentation at least once: https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html ;)

BTW: You didn't checked the discard checkbox of your virtual disk, so your VM won't be able to TRIM and the VM will grow and grow as your LVM-Thin won't be able to free up deleted data.

Came across this comment when searching for why my Ubuntu VM in Proxmox is sluggish. I switched to SPICE and now it feel normal. Awesome thanks!
