Hello,
I have setup a proxmox backup server on an old commodity computer (intel quad core) and now need to setup an external pbs, also on an old commodity computer (intel i3).
Near zero budget because this is not the official IT system, it is till now (un)considered test/shadow IT, not even dev. It takes time to convince people that "IT works" and that they don't necessary need the big budget solutions and make them switch.
I managed to get the equivalent to a few hundred euros to buy a hard drive for the second pbs (remote) but also would like to enlarge the capacity on the first pbs (local) from 1Tb to 8Tb.
Which of the two "video surveillance" or "nas" hdd type is best suited for the purpose of storing backups of proxmox VMs and containers for relatively long periods ?
TIA

It is forbidden for State owned companies to externalise their data outside the country and some says even outside their datacenters.

Toshiba N300 never let me down for such tasks.
Built for 24/7 use and a quite performing HDD in general.

As your storage will be "always on", ZFS and PBS will do regular health checks on the data, so even in the long term (whatever timeframe that may be?) the data should be safe.
Having ECC RAM would be an additional safety bonus, but most certainly out of your budget, right now.
But for a Proof of Concept that'd be absolutely fine.
