Hi
Root cause of this issue vmware agent left on VM. Some circumstances required to left alone PE vmxnet driver requirement.

Boot on error:
szAppName : winlogon.exe
szAppVer : 0.0.0.0
szModName : VMUpgradeAtShutdownWXP.dll
szModVer : xxxx

OR

On Windows 2000 you have a memory corruption related error popup

Solution:
Go to %systemroot%\system32 folder
For this error on winlogon.exe rename VMUpgradeAtShutdownWXP.dll file, to VMUpgradeAtShutdownWXP.OLD
DO NOT DELETE! Because you will face popup error later -- see VM tools remove below.
Reboot and all related error like this will be gone.

if you try to remove VM tools, it will send an error:
"Setup Failed to detemine which VM product this virtual machine is running on. Click OK to cancel the installation"

Revert rename then remove vmware VM tools
