Troubles with latest virtio drivers for Windows and latest PVE 1.8

Hey Tom, the virtio link is still available in the Quote of post #18, please clean :)

done.

hello,

so the solution is temporarily downgrade to 2.6.32 ?

pve-manager: 1.8-18 (pve-manager/1.8/6070)
running kernel: 2.6.35-1-pve
proxmox-ve-2.6.35: 1.8-11
pve-kernel-2.6.32-4-pve: 2.6.32-33
pve-kernel-2.6.35-1-pve: 2.6.35-11
qemu-server: 1.1-30
pve-firmware: 1.0-11
libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-17
vncterm: 0.9-2
vzctl: 3.0.28-1pve1
vzdump: 1.2-14
vzprocps: 2.0.11-2
vzquota: 3.0.11-1
pve-qemu-kvm: 0.14.1-1
ksm-control-daemon: 1.0-6

On very high load (stress test), I always make Virtio crash under Win2003 (with any kernel, 2.6.32 / 2.6.35 / 2.6.38)
So the only working conf very very high load is Intel e1000 for me.

Hi
actually this is a long standing issue - there have been some suggestions on this forum to get this solved, but in fact to leave the VM as "standard" as possible for us too e1000 is the way to go (in fact not only on Win2k3/8 but also on Ubuntu Kernels running within the VM according to our experience).

regards
hk

Hello,

We have two Windows Server 2008R2SP1 and several months with the same network problems.

Both servers does have NOT high network load, in fact, the server with more issues is not the production server and it have low network load and still falling.

Two days ago we changing from Virtio to Intel driver and seems to be more stable. I hope dont to downgrade the kernel or QUEMU version...

pve-manager: 1.8-17 (pve-manager/1.8/5948)
running kernel: 2.6.35-1-pve
proxmox-ve-2.6.35: 1.8-10
pve-kernel-2.6.32-4-pve: 2.6.32-32
pve-kernel-2.6.35-1-pve: 2.6.35-10
qemu-server: 1.1-30
pve-firmware: 1.0-11
libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-17
vncterm: 0.9-2
vzctl: 3.0.26-1pve4
vzdump: 1.2-11
vzprocps: 2.0.11-2
vzquota: 3.0.11-1
pve-qemu-kvm: 0.14.0-3
ksm-control-daemon: 1.0-5

all with troubles should test kvm 0.15 (pvetest) and pls report results here. we are still no able to reproduce the issue in our lab.

mmm, i have remade some test with 2.6.38 kernel and qemu 0.14.1 , and i can 100% reproduce the bug

netbios copy (40GB files) from a win2003 to win2008R2 (virtio 1.2.0).

after 20-30GB, nic on win2008 does not respond. (but all is fine inside the vm, i have 2 virtual nics, i can connect with the other nic.²

i'll try qemu 0.15 this week.

I had tried with qemu 0.15, same problem :(

so last stable for me is 2.6.32 + any qemu version or > 2.6.32 with qemu 0.12.

I think i'll try to build the redhat 2.6.32 kernel with all backported stuff (maxvpu 64 ,transparent hugepage,....)

Hi,

can add my issue.
Get hangs (losting) connection to VM Windows 2008 R2 SP1 Eng.
Heavy load and it happends 2-5 times per a day (fresh install)

On same server with VM Windows XP SP3 Eng not so heavy it happends once per 2-4 days. But system (Win XP) restarting.
Both time: Virtio driver virtio-win-1.1.16.iso

System configuration:
pve-manager: 1.9-26 (pve-manager/1.9/6567)
running kernel: 2.6.32-6-pve
proxmox-ve-2.6.32: 1.9-50
pve-kernel-2.6.32-6-pve: 2.6.32-50
qemu-server: 1.1-32
pve-firmware: 1.0-14
libpve-storage-perl: 1.0-19
vncterm: 0.9-2
vzctl: 3.0.29-3pve1
vzdump: 1.2-16
vzprocps: 2.0.11-2
vzquota: 3.0.11-1
pve-qemu-kvm: 0.15.0-1
ksm-control-daemon: 1.0-6

Intersting thing found right now. Just downloaded couple of drivers, just iso:
virtio-win-1.1.11-0.iso
virtio-win-0.1-15.iso
virtio-win-0.1-mm34.iso
virtio-win-1.1.16.iso

and was trying to copy them to this VM system (Win XP Pro SP3).
I'm getting errors
"Error. Cannot read file" (Total commander shell)
"Cannot copy virtio-win-1.1.11-0: Cannot find the specified file.
Make sure you specify correct path and file name"

Through Total I can repeat several times. After 1-3 tries it is copied 100%.
But all the times stops at 87-97%...

I'm thinking to update only driver's version and check same issue.
