Suggestion: Domain management

Hi Proxmox,

Now that I have a subscription I feel I can post here :)

Email is all about domains but I find the domain management side of proxmox unnecessarily complex...
Perhaps my use case is different?

I'm using proxmox as a mail gateway (in & out) to 2 (soon to be 3) mail servers. When complete there will be 50 or so domains. These are small businesses (1-4 mailboxes max)

for each domain there are three screens I need to go to
  1. relay domain (enables the domain for inbound mail)
  2. transports (sets the mail server/store for the domain)
  3. dkim (outbound signing)

As my domain lists grow its becoming more and more error prone as its not possible to get an overview of the domain setup. There is not even a record count.

I would like to suggest this is replaced by a single 'Domains' config screen, on which is:
The domain, the transport (dropdown, default or otherwise), dkim enabled (checkbox)

The current transports screen is retained for defining transports.
The current dkim screen is retained for configuring dkim.

Some debug options against the domain would be nice too - MX record validation. DKIM validation. Daily automatic verification with little green ticks would be fantastic.

cheers,
F.

Hehe, thank you for getting a subscription, but the forums are free for all users :)

Regarding the domain management: As a first step and if setting up domains is something that happens on a regular basis for you, you might be interested to use the API to automate these steps.

The API viewer (which you should also be able to see when you click on "Documentation" in your PMG GUI) lists the possible API endpoints: https://pmg.proxmox.com/pmg-docs/api-viewer/

The guide on the PVE wiki on how to interact with the API applies for PMG as well: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Proxmox_VE_API

Regarding your request to change the UI: The best place for this is our bug tracker (https://bugzilla.proxmox.com). :)

Hello Community,
there would be great a search bar in the categories "relay domains" and "transports" too. If there is an large amount of domains it takes much time to find the domain in the webinterface you want to delete or configure.
@aaron - Yes there you can use the powerful api to make changes. It's quiet great and i like it. But sometimes if you are allready logged-in into the webgui you want to make a quick change or check some configurations. There it would be fine to find the domain you searched for quickly.
