I am running av VM (Debian) on a Proxmox host. When I connect outbound from the VM to my VPN provider (NordVPN) it connects just fine, and when I do “ip a” after connecting I can see that the interface “tun0” has been created like it should, however, when I check my WAN IP from the VM it still shows my regular WAN IP, even though I am connected to NordVPN. I have never encountered this when connecting to NordVPN from a thick client. Something about Proxmox I have not understood?

PVE doesn't interfere with the network inside the VM (except if you enable/setup cloudinit).

Okey. Thanks for your quick reply. Weird problem, because from the same VLAN as my Proxmox host I can connect my computer to my VPN provider with exactly the same OS (Debian) and OS version and the exact same VPN config on my computer. On my computer I get NordVPN's WAN IP, but on the VM inside Proxmox I do not. I am not in any way blaming Proxmox, I just find this really weird.
Guess I will have to investigate this in more detail.
