I've tested with FreeNAS and OpenFiler and I must say OpenFiler is way better and faster! FWIW

I tested OpenFiler now a bit and I can say for small business users it's a good and fast storage-solution.

At home I would prefer FreeNAS.

In the last few of months I been using the StarWind software, it works greet with VMs, and is perfect for your scenario.
Try first the free version, then if you founded useful, use the server version it’s even better.

Looks like you are promoting your own software here.

If you think it works well with Proxmox VE, I suggest you provide more details, I mean implementation howto´s or any other whitepapers.

I mean not for running as a guest VM but using as a SAN for Proxmox VE (e.g. via iscsi). We are quite close to release the first beta of the flexible storage model and we would like to see example implementations in our wiki pages.

Hi,

I've just started using the free developer version of Nexenta Stor on a cheap home built (well office built) PC with some hard drives. It has web gui which allows an RSYNC client to run a scheduled times. This is great for backing up VM's for disaster recovery.

It too also has iscsi , although I've not got round to fully testing it yet. The base filesystem is ZFS which does some very useful things.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and it lists the versions with a download link. The developer version is limited to 2TB, there is a VMWARE version which is 6TB. When you install it will ask for a key, you have to register a code on their website to get this key.

I try to install Nexenta in Proxmox as a kvm machine, and not run, always reboot. Same with v2 and v3. I use Proxmox 1.3.

Hi,

I use Nexentastor to create a nas box on a separate server to proxmox. This is used to back up the VM using rsync. Rsync can be scheduled to run from the nexenta web interface.

Looks that it supports iSCSI - so it should be no problem (but I have never tested it).
