This is for a ZFS RAID (no hardware) on which VMs with web servers, databases, etc. will run, so a lot of movementIt depends on whether it's hardware RAID5 or ZFS RAIDz1. It also depends on whether you are using it to store ISO and/or backups or want to run VMs on it (with databases for example).
I think RAIDz1 is a very bad choice as (write) performance will be (very) slow and you'll lose a lot of space with 4 drives. A stripe of mirrors would be much better for IOPS for VMs and databases. Make sure to get enterprise SSDs with PLP.This is for a ZFS RAID (no hardware) on which VMs with web servers, databases, etc. will run, so a lot of movement
I notice that my server accepts SATA or SAS disks. So I guess it is better to favor the SAS? So you recommend mirroring 2 SSDs rather than doing a RAID with several SSDs?I think RAIDz1 is a very bad choice as (write) performance will be (very) slow and you'll lose a lot of space with 4 drives.
