Spam Reporting Idea...

Hello All,

I have been doing this for many years and every couple of weeks, I'll pick on a spammer that hits the quarantine server with 40 messages to different users, I'll grab the headers and report them to spamcop.
I know that I'm putting the most small scratch on the problem, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something to push back.
When lookin in spam quarantine, I identify a message and then grab all the others that match (sender/subject etc) and delete them ( see pic ).

I'm wondering if we setup something like a spamcop function ( or any other reporting service ) that we add a button there to the options called report.
We select the spam messages and click report and we send all the headers ( individually) to them.
In my example there are only 4 or 5 matches, but I have done it with 30-40 matches and I do each one by hand reporting.
This might help get spammers blacklisted more quickly, maybe not, but it seems like something that can fight back a bit....

Thoughts?

would be nice to have something like the forums have where you signup with a service like

StopForumSpam.

If you have an API key from StopForumSpam, you may have spammer activity on your site automatically reported back to StopForumSpam in order to improve the database for other users. This option will cause users who are banned via the spam cleaner to be reported.

and or
Check DNSBL on registration Check IP addresses in DNS block lists when a new user registers to help prevent spam. If the StopForumSpam integration is not enabled, the Tornevall DNSBL will be checked.

these are some integrated Spam Management assistants we use on a forum we have and it works.

this would be great to integrate this in mail ( a. first to stop the spam and second to report them and block their IP address and email domains.. every little bit helps. :)

Great thinking from the OP ( @MiamiJack ) :)

For me I don't want to invent an RBL, although if everybody thinks its easy, I'm in.
I just want to utilize the reporting functionality and pick a partner ( or multiple ) to report like spamcop or whomever else.
We would only make their RBL better by feeding it SPAM.

I wanted to circle back on this idea.
Unfortunately I'm not a good enough coder to contribute to the project, but these are my thoughts:

1. While most people will not report the spam, I have at times submitted 10-30 from a someone who is sending a bunch like the attached. I do this because some Bandwidth providers will charge their client for each incident that is reported a fee, I know for ours at our Data Center, we get charged $50. If I report 30 spam messages, I can now grab someone's attention who is paying the fees, and *maybe* they will react and be more diligent about who they allow to use their services.

2. If I can report quickly and easily via this idea, more of us would do so, further pushing buttons of providers.

3. I get some satisfaction as to the fact that I at least played a very small role in trying to make the email landscape better.

So the question becomes do enough people want this to warrant someone investing time in writing it?
Do you think this is a waste of time?

Just an idea, I work on trying to protect the users from spam and could use all the help I can get!
