Hi,

nice work with 2.2. I've updated my lab-cluster and everything works fine.

I've a 3 node cluster-lab with replicated storage on two servers with drbd. ontop of this i setup nfs to share the storage. Nice. 5secs downtime on hardware failure (power plug).
But now there's the option to take a live-snapshot. Really cool feature that's seen in every other virtualization-solution but it only works with lvm. Isn't it possible to take snapshots without lvm?

Kind regards
MasterTH

lvm snapshots are only used for backup for now. (snapshot create, backup, snasphot delete), because they don't know in cluster (live migrate).

New proxmox snapshots works (currently) with : qcow2 file, sheepdog, ceph (rbd), nexenta.

how is this new snapshot any different from what we had?
as we speak, i've just created a snapshot on one of my VM, and VM is not responding at all. i'm on 2.1 btw. for me, snapshot usually takes half hour or longer, so you could say, it's not really snappy.

this snapshot is like snapshots in vmware, virtualbox, hyperv, ... You can snapshot the current state of the system without suspending your VM oder dealing with lvm snapshots.

The really cool thing is, when you plan to install updates or new features to a server you can snapshot the state first, then do the update and when something goes wrong, just switch back to the state before the snapshot. But you should delete the snapshot when your installation or upgrade is done, otherwise you waste space

ahh finally! thought this day would never come!

now the hard part, upgrading 2.1 to 2.2. how safe is it to upgrade?

hmm... i can't tell you how it is in production. i tested the upgrade procedure in my test-lab with only 2 VServers running, everything worked fine.
In production i started with a complete fresh installation because i build up a new cluster so i didn't had to upgrade
