snapshot and restoring it

I didn't find any useful post about how to make an snapshot from a VM and restore it when it's required.
Does qcow2 and KVM support making snapshot fast without copying the hdd file?
What about restoring it, does it take a long time to restore it?

As far as I know vzdump create a tar file as backup, but I just need snapshot so I can install dangerous app and revert my hdd when it's done fast without copying files.
Is it possible?
