i was playing with proxmox (kvm and VE) for about 2 months, and i am very impressed with the software. Congratulations to the developer team!!!.

OpenVZ is great and my VEs flies!

But i am very disappointed with my Windows KVM full virtualizated machines.

All of them have the system clock lagging a lot. Even if a syncro with a ntp server. Sometimes the clocks go so slowly that he never get the time of the next syncro.

Any tip for this? Can anybody help me with this issue?

Ty for the help, and sorry for my english :)

yup I get the same issue..;

and in a KVM I can't NTP sync because it's not able to write back to the BIOS clock

i was surfing about this and this issue is very common, I ve tested this on my own lenny and the bug still there. But with kernel 2.6.28 from kernel.org hand compiled work ok.

Then a question to promox staff, the next version of promox, which kernel is coming to this great product?

I never saw clock issues on windows boxes like described here so I assume it only occurs in some situations - can you post your VM config file /etc/qemu-server/VMID.conf and your hardware (cpu, mainboard)?

to your questions: the next release will be based on Lenny. If KVM-85 is stable here, we will include KVM-85 (Kernel 2.6.24, due to OpenVZ restrictions)

sorry for my late answer but i was at vacation :)

yep this helps a lot, but i some machine as described up, its still lagging with only one processor

I have here the same problem with a windows 2003 small business server.

My configuration:
name: MERKUR
ide2: none,media=cdrom
smp: 1
bootdisk: ide0
ide0: vm-109-disk.qcow2
ostype: w2k3
memory: 3072

ide3: vm-109-disk-2.qcow2
boot: c
freeze: 0
cpuunits: 400000
acpi: 1
kvm: 1
vlan0: e1000=32:89:6D:81:69:0D

Hardware:
Supermicro Board PDSM4+
Intel Xeon E3220, 6GB RAM

I suggest you try with the upcoming KVM-85 (in Proxmox VE 1.2), available in about one or two weeks.

What I have noticed now regarding this problem is that in my case running two kvm machines (the second one is vyatta, a software router based on linux) with different operating systems might have caused the problem. After migrating the vm (vyatta) to another machine the windows server is working properly again. Another aspect is that during the time the windows server did not hold the time I could not see really high loads on the ressources (CPU load, IO) of the proxmox machine.
Despite this problem I would like to congratulate the proxmox team for this really impressive software. It is absolute easy to install and maintain compared to several other virtualization projects/software I have already tested and used (vmware, citrix xen, virtual iron).

thanks for this and also for your donation for our test lab!

maybe you can write a short testimonial about your experiences?
thanks!
