Hi all. I`m setting up a SAS Shared Storage with multipath for two nodes. I want to make a cluster but it seems to me that the choice of lvm seems to be wrong.

I want to ask for advice.
1. the choice of lvm (shared) for sas shared storage is justified?
2. do I need to cluster nodes before testing shared storage?

I wanted to choose a simple and reliable solution. But for some reason there are already problems.

Its one of the options that is supported by PVE. LVM thick can be used to provide shared (in reality one node at a time) access as it does not contain common metadata space that cannot be written to by multiple hosts (like LVM thin does).
Technically a slice is created and assigned to a node in the cluster, the other member knows about it and never tries to claim it. All space is allocated at the time of creation and there is no competition between nodes for block allocation.

If you dont have any coordination between two hosts you will likely cause data corruption at some point.

@jdancer has pointed you to the correct thread for catching up on various capabilities of different volume managers and file systems.

If you really want a 2-node "shared" storage, can use ZFS replication and use a 3rd non-cluster RPI/VM/PC as a QDevice for quorum.
ZFS replication is not a "shared" solution. Its a DR (disaster recovery) option, not High Availability that proper shared storage provides.
