Hi guys,
I'm new to community and proxmox project.
I need some advice to follow how to proper share host drives to VM or LXC.
I have host with 4 drives to be shared with my VM.
I like to use full capacity of my drives and format them in xfs like all my VM and LXC are centos.
For now I manage how to add drives to proxmox and then attach them to Vm.
Problem is that this is not really host shared drives. I can connect drive to VM but then VM is using this drive for container storage so not my point.
I like to use full capacity of my hdd and share them across all my vm,
I have separate ssd for all my vms and iso ,etc.
Can you kindly point me in some directions pls.
How is the best practice to do that.
This node is designed for storage so my VMs are for access points for difrent projects, etc and proxmox internal hdds are for storage for all of the vms.
All advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Also there is a huge gap in manual for gui and cli. In formatting and attaching , share drives, make them nfs, etc what is the way to achieve it? Gui or cli?

I'm not sure what exactly you want.

Did you want to pass-through all your drives to one VM and then install NFS service? Or did you want to use the 4 Drives with an ZFS / Software RAID and the you want to use this as datastore?

Hi,

Thank you for your answer
No
Host (proxmox)
1 SSD for proxmox host and containers
4 SAS drives for storage
I don't provide raid for the drives and i'm happy for it right now
I like to allow all 4 sas drives accessible to all my VM created in my SSD also for another node.
So the box is ssd for all system and containers but storage is full utilized 4 SAS drives which I can share them across my Vms or LCX.

Thank you,

That's not really a good idea, if multiple clients write the Metadata this will normally destroy your Data, if you not using an FS which support this.

You should create an RAID or something else and setup an NFS Service, then it's possible to mount it on all VMs.
