samba cifs

any one else see not to be able to use samba / cifs share for disk images as a store for vm disk images..

the reading of iso files for like loading xp, 2003, win7 iso from the samba share works fine ..

just can not create a disk image on a samba / cifs share..

first it will not start after you create the vm then with the cachewrite on the startup of the vm image on a samba share the format process stops at 20 percent with a cifs error in the proxmox server log.

does it works, if you append ",cache=writethrough" at the disk-entry in the /etc/qemu-server/VMID.conf? Since pve1.8 the default changed from cache=writethrough to cache=none (better for most cases, but not for all).

Yes I found that change in the forum about the disk cache write thrue.. it does allow the
VM to startup with that option wher as before it would not even start..

After the startup though is where it gets stuck when I try to format the disk. so
i can never get windows 2003 server to install using a vm on a cifs share.. this was a windows box win 7 ultimate that i tested on. I have also tested on a free nas box and had the same problem using cifs.. However I did test freenas using NFS and ISCSI and that works fine for images. I think of the two NFS and ISCSI the NFS was faster than ISCSI.
ISCSI puts a lot more load on the guest than when using a NFS server..I found.

Thanks for the help I would like to be able to put images on a cifs device for vm images.
