Safely dissolving a cluster while keeping vm's

I have 2 proxmox hosts in a cluster, and I'd like to retire the second server. I've found instructions on how to remove a host from a cluster, but I'm not sure if that applies if it's 1 of the last 2 remaining. The surviving host has 2 vm's on it that it is important I keep up and running. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

You didn' tell us which instructions you found. What happens in which moment when you follow https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#_remove_a_cluster_node ?

What gives pvecm status ? (Please post in CODE-Tags.)

Probably you need to execute pvecm expected 1 first via ssh or the local console to be able to run some commands and to be able to log in via the WebGui succesfully. ("5.5.1. Separate a Node Without Reinstalling")

@UdoB pvecm expected 1 doesn't seem to work anymore It used to, though... Any idea why?

$ pvecm expected 1

Unable to set expected votes: CS_ERR_INVALID_PARAM

@UdoB Sorry, my bad, actually the second node was still up when I was issuing the command. The command works when the second node is down. Please never mind my comment.
