I've recently purchased a new Intel NUC 8i7BEH that I'm loading up with the full 32G of RAM which can take a 2.5" disk and a M2 drive. I'm going to use both but what I'm confused about is the best way to setup these disks.
The 2.5" SSD I'm going to put in is only 120G (its all I had laying around) and I plan on using this just for boot/Proxmox install and ISO storage however initially VMs will also run on this as my M2 drive doesn't turn up for a week or two. I am assuming I can just migrate the storage to the M2 drive once I set it up.
What I'm wondering is whats the best way to setup the M2 drive. I'm getting a 1TB 970 EVO Plus so I'll have enough space for my use but I'm unsure how to partition/format it given the storage docs show so many options. My understanding is that if I setup the M2 drive as just plain LVM in Proxmox and use block level storage this will get the best performance but has the downside of me not being able to use any of the 1TB for other things. Am I best just formatting and using file level storage as opposed to block level storage or is using block level a better option? Any advice would be fantastic!
