Raid Setup

guys please help the new noob

i need your advise on what the best raid would be for the following setups

4 x 2TB Seagate NAS Drives ?

OR

5 x 2TB Seagate Drives ?

What Raid choice should i use for a New Proxmox 4.2 Installation?

Any help greatly appreciated

I suggest you think of using ZFS raid 10.

In this case, you need additional:

• ECC ram (some dedicated for ZFS)
• One small enterprise class SSD for ZIL cache, e.g. Intel DC S3510 or better (3610/3710)

Please stop saying you need ECC for ZFS, that's simply not true. You need ECC for everything, always ... it's not a ZFS thing. ZFS also works great (and even better than any other filesystem) without ECC.

At least a lot recommends it. but yes, people should always high quality ECC ram only. Bad ram is the reason for a lot of instability and strange failures.
