Proxmox ZSF -> dataset for OVM

Sorry for the question:
First of all, I'm really apologise for creating an additional thread on a proxmox system configuration. I know there are already many threads on this topic, and I definitely haven't read them all, but I can't decide what's best for my purposes. Perhaps your advice can help.

My requirements and system:
The system which I want to build have to be a rock solid NAS. The integrity of my data is the most important point. Therefore, I plan to build a HomeServer and a remote server at a different location for backups, both connected via VPN. A third copy of the data will be stored on the clients (synchronized via Syncthing).
However, my home server will have enough compute power for further applications.
I don't have a HBA card to passthrough my hdds. The boot drives are two ssd, which are mirrored.

My options:
Currently, I see two options:

1. TrueNAS bare metal and ZSF as filesystem for the hdds and my data. --> additional apps per docker
2. Proxmox with the following system config: --> additional apps per vm or lxc
   1. ZSF for the hdds and controlled by proxmox
   2. Creation of a dataset with type filesystem ext4
   3. privileged LXC OpenMediaVault with access to the ext4 filesystem

Why OMV and not TureNAS for option 2? Because OVM fulfill basically my requirements to a NAS system but it doesn't support ZFS.
At the moment I prefer option 2.


What would you choose and why?

I would install debian on your hw and use it for fileservice (nfs/samba/http/s3/... all what you want) while all having in any kind of raid'ed form (sw like zfs/mdadm or by hw ctrl) as even separated as OS and data, after upgrade it to pve too. No need for a truenas or omv install.
Highest performance as you have all hw resources (cpu, mem+iops) for fileserving available, be easierst to backup, replicate and restore as even have ability to use it as workstation and be able to run any further vm or lxc for anythink further.

It's not supported to run OMV ( or any NAS OS) inside a lxc:

Either run it in a vm with a dedicated sata-controller ( see https://www.truenas.com/community/r...guide-to-not-completely-losing-your-data.212/ ) or install it instead of ProxmoxVE.

The third Option is to setup a regular vm or lxc and use it as Fileserver e.g. with turnkeylinux Fileserver, zamba-toolbox or a vm of your favorite linux distribution with samba/nfs

In my universe the KISS principle is still valid --> do not put too much complexity in one system, keep it as simple as possible instead. With Linux knowledge @waltar is right. If you want a preconfigured system then TrueNAS probably suites better.

Yes, two boxes doubles the price. (And a cluster for High Availability does it again.) Set your priorities and then choose your poison...
