Hi guys! Im pretty new to virtualization/networking and im experimenting with PfSense in Proxmox.

Is it possible to use PfSense in Proxmox with only 1 NIC? I have been trying to set this up for a few days and im getting more and more confused.
My plan to get this working might be 100% wrong, can someone please tell me what i should do? Im about to clear everything and start over.

My PfSense VM is set up with two virtual NICs with VLANs, 99 is LAN and 100 is WAN.

I have confed a deticated WAN port on my HP Aruba that uses VLAN100.

My PfSense WAN interface does not get an IP.

Should work in theory. Did you enable "vlan aware" for your vmbr0?
And the aruba port you connect your PVE host to is setup to use tagged vlan 99+100?

So you basically screw over everything you posted before and you are now doing somethimg completely different with other vlans.

soberlols this is possible, I've done it. I'd recommend using OVS, I've had issues in the past with Linux bridges not being VLAN aware. Make sure you set the NIC on pfSense to not be VLAN tagged, and set-up the interface properly in the pfSense console

I've done it differently.

On the switch :
- the port where the box is connected is UNTAG on VLAN 42.
- the port where the proxmox is connected is switchport mode trunk allowed vlan 1,42 with vlan 1 untag.

On proxmox :
- vmbr0 is not vlan aware
- the pfsense has 2 interface virtio : the first one for LAN and the second one for WAN with vlan tag = 42

Works like a charm.
